LA Regional Meals Financial institution attracts volunteers to pack 4,451 packing containers of meals for these in want – Day by day Information

Volunteers at the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank this week helped pack 4,451 “kits” – boxes filled with canned goods and non-perishable milk that is then distributed to those in need. The 140 volunteers on Tuesday, Aug. 2, were from the global accounting firm KPMG, and ranged from senior partners to summer interns.

“Volunteers are a critical part of our work,” said President and CEO of the LA Regional Food Bank, Michael Flood. “KPMG’s volunteer hours will result in more people getting the food and nutrition assistance they need, and it was wonderful having them at our new distribution center in the City of Industry.”

KPMG’s spokesman Henry Yu said, “This year is our 125th birthday at KPMG, so nationwide the firm designated Aug. 2 as our Community Impact Day. We went to the food bank site in City of Industry, a huge warehouse almost like Costco where they have pallets and pallets of non-perishable canned foods.”

Yu said it was a great experience, with 140 people on “a huge assembly line, with dozens of people putting cans onto a conveyor belt, then into a box.” His job was putting cans of “sliced peaches into boxes, and there were canned beans, soups, vegetables — anything that can be stored without refrigeration.”

The food bank will now distribute the boxes to locations throughout LA County.
