LA Mayor Presents One-Time Stipends to Out of Work Restaurant Employees Who Dwell in Los Angeles

Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti announced on Wednesday that the city is providing emergency aid to restaurant workers affected by the Los Angeles County’s outdoor eating ban.

As part of the Safe Emergency Relief for Vulnerable Workers (SERVE), Los Angeles residents who work in the food industry receive a one-time grant of $ 800.

The program will help those who have lost their jobs as well as those in the restaurant industry who may still be employed but have lost at least half of their income this year.

West Hollywood residents are NOT eligible for the scholarships. Los Angeles residents only.

The SERVE program is funded by the Los Angeles Mayor’s Nonprofit Fund. The fund will provide more than $ 3 million for SERVE.

“SERVE will be a lifeline for 4,000 of our most vulnerable and loved employees as all Angelenos work to bring those COVID numbers back down so we can open more,” Garcetti said during his weekly COVID-19 briefing on Wednesday

The SERVE application period starts on Monday at 9:00 a.m. and stays open until December 11th at 11:50 p.m. If more than 4,000 people apply (which is most likely the case), recipients will be selected at random, provided they meet the eligibility requirements.

The conditions of participation are:

1. Must live in the city of Los Angeles.
2. Must be at least 18 years old.
3. Must have had total annual income less than $ 58,450 prior to the COVID-19 crisis.
4. Must work in the food service industry and have evidence that income has been impacted.

Applicants selected to receive the SERVE scholarships must provide evidence that they meet the admission requirements.

Immigration status is not taken into account in the award of SERVE grants, but all applicants must have an email address. The selected people will be notified by email.
