* (BEVERLY HILLS) – The sorting room meetings, The Wallis Annenberg Center for Performing Arts’ popular nightclub series offers six entertaining programs, including two holiday-themed shows with a range of fascinating magicians and outstanding pop, jazz and classical music artists. The programs will be presented digitally on Saturday evening at 8:00 p.m. from December 5, 2020 to January 23, 2021. Single tickets and tickets for multiple shows are now available. The purchase of a digital concert includes 24-hour access. The programs include:

Start of the virtual sorting room sessions, jazz and blues legend from The Wallis Barbara Morrison, named by NPR as one of the “50 Greatest Jazz Singers”, shows her breathtaking two and a half octave range and her rich, soulful, musical interpretations in Stand on their shoulders, a musical homage to the legendary jazz and blues singers Billie Holiday, Sarah Vaughan and Dinah Washington and she Fitzgeraldand the songs that made them popular. Over the course of her 61-year career, the three-time Grammy nominee performed with a virtual “Who’s Who” of the jazz and blues world, including Dizzy Gillespie, Ray Charles, Etta James, Johnny Otis and Nancy Wilson. Mel Tormé, Joe Williams, Tony Bennett and Keb ‘Mo. Morrison has also made guest appearances with the Count Basie Orchestra, the Clayton-Hamilton Orchestra and the Louie Bellson Band. The Christmas season promises to be even more magical with this special family-friendly program with four magicians from LA. Musically, fun and adorable, these elite members of Magic Castle including Elizabeth Messick, Michaelann Awesome, Patricia Magicia and Simone Turkington will amaze and amaze the entire family with their gift of awe-inspiring holiday-themed magic. Messick, known as “The Siren of Magic”, enchants with its vintage flair. Close-up magician and stand-up comic book Awesome weaves humor and mystery into her handy performances. The French magician Magicia fascinates adults and children alike with her uncanny skills. Turkington brings the images and sounds of the 1960s into the visual, card and mentalism effects that make up her repertoire.

Audra Mae: Songs of joy and peace

Powerhouse singer Audra Mae, Judy Garland’s great-great-niece, and keyboard magician Dylan Meek put the Christmas season to music from classic holiday films. They are joined by the special guests Darren Criss (Glee) and Tracie Thoms (Rent, Cold Case, The Devil Wears Prada). Says NPR, “Audra Mae has a compelling natural sweetness to her style that just needs attention,” and Out magazine proclaims, “Singer-songwriter Audra Mae kicks the ass in all genres of music.” The show is presented in collaboration with For The Record Live, known for its genre-defining form of live entertainment, which turns the soundtracks of famous filmmakers into exciting theater concerts. The Wallis has a long and successful history with For The Record Live, including the acclaimed co-productions of FOR THE RECORD: SCORSESE American Crime Requiem and the record breaking hit production of Love Actually Live.

The Sorting Room Sessions of the Valais will continue on January 9, 2021. The celebrated violinist Anne Akiko Meyers and the well-known pianist Fabio Bidini ring in the new year with a musical trip to France. The program includes Gounod’s Ave Mari, Massanet’s wonderfully dramatic meditation from the Thais opera, a sublime cornerstone of the violin repertoire, and Ravel’s lavish Jazz Sonata No. 2 in G major. Meyers has been hailed for “heartfelt game” (The New York Times) and “powerful mastery, unwavering technical ability and stylish elegance” (Los Angeles Times). Bidini, a finalist in the 1993 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition, was named a “keyboard wizard (with) a beautiful tone” (Boston Musical Intelligencer), “capable of admirable simplicity … truly touching” (The New York Times).

Richard Shelton in Sinatra: RAW

ON REQUEST: Saturday, January 16, 8:00 p.m.

Multi-award winning British actor and singer Richard Shelton presents a cabaret version of his captivating hit show Sinatra: RAW, a grainy rendering of Sinatra on his last public appearance in Vegas, which sold out in the UK, London. Los Angeles and Australia, where he won “Best Solo Performance” at the Adelaide Festival. The Times (London) states, “Richard Shelton’s masterful approach to Ol ‘Blue Eyes is a must.” Warning: This performance contains strong language.

Sheléa: A tribute to Alan & Marilyn Bergman

ON REQUEST: Saturday, January 23rd, 8:00 p.m.

From the White House to the Kennedy Center and Carnegie Hall to the Grammy Museum and the Emmy Awards, Singer / Songwriter / Keyboardist, Sheléa has pushed the boundaries of musical classification with her eclectic and distinctive voice. On this special evening in Valais, Sheléa will perform songs written by Alan and Marilyn Bergman, the Oscar-winning couple whose lyrics to songs like “What are you doing for the rest of your life?”, “Pretty World” and “Smile” Have her inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame.

San Francisco Classical Voice praised their ability to “astound the audience”.

On-demand broadcasts for single sorting rooms cost $ 25.00 per household for viewing on smart TV, computer, smartphone or tablet.
